The Algorand Foundation has introduced the new x402 facilitator from GoPlausible, designed to organize payments and data collection in the realm of agentic commerce. The development aims to solve the problem of the lack of a built-in payment mechanism on the internet, which for decades has been compensated by subscriptions and ad networks unsuitable for automated transactions.

The tool is targeted at scenarios where software agents act on behalf of users, and the cost of a single request may be a fraction of a cent. Along with the payment solution, a full intelligence dashboard is provided for monitoring operations.

The adoption of this standard allows a shift from outdated API key models to a system capable of processing high-frequency micropayments directly on the Algorand blockchain. This creates the technical foundation for an economy where software can independently pay for its actions without intermediaries.
