French police have reported an alarming trend: since 2023, the country has registered 135idnapping cases linked to cryptocurrency. Criminals are targeting owners of digital assets or their relatives, demanding release in exchange for transfers of bitcoins and other altcoins.

In response to the wave of crimes, law enforcement agencies conducted a series of operations, resulting in the pre-trial detention of 75 suspects. These individuals are accused of attempting to organize kidnappings for the purpose of obtaining crypto assets.

These figures reflect a growing security problem for cryptocurrency holders in France, where criminal groups are adapting traditional extortion methods to the specifics of the digital market.
